That was genuinely valuable. But the industry's response to that capability was predictable: add more screens, more alerts, more reasons to check your wrist constantly.

A gym-goer could watch their heart rate zone live. Each feature seemed reasonable in isolation. Collectively, they created something different: a device designed to interrupt your actual workout with data about your workout.
